Our water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) theme is focused on low- and middle-income countries. We are dedicated to providing evidence-based answers to the challenges that face the sector, not only relating to actions that need to be carried out to improve the health and well-being of communities, but also how to implement such actions.
Expertise
Specifically we work to develop the underlying analysis of evidence to influence policy and practice. We work with many development sector partners around the world to enhance our collective impact. This is evident from the annual WEDC conference and .
We have wide ranging experience with an emphasis on multi-disciplinary approaches and the key elements of sustainability including: functionality, institutional, financial, environmental and equity aspects. Education and Training
Our research underpins our other activities including our education and training programmes. We offer a range of flexible opportunities at postgraduate level. Students can come to WEDC to study, or study at home by distance learning.
Our postgraduate programmes can also be studied at Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate levels.

Postgraduate Research
We are delighted to be working with Leeds and Cranfield Universities on WATER-WISER, the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Water and Waste Infrastructure Systems Engineered for Resilience. 50 funded studentships are available over the next 5 years for UK and EU students.
